Some Healthy Inspiration from my small world in May.
I know that this is a food blog and I know that you are probably only here to find weekly recipe inspiration, but to be honest, there are more things in life that inspire me other than food. That’s why I decided to start a new blog series called “Healthy Favorites”, where I will share everything that inspired, touched or moved me in any way that month. Be it a new book that I read, a new podcast that I listened to or a new café that I tried – this will be the place where you will get to know the real me, and everything that happens in my little happy world. Don’t worry, there will still be plenty of recipe posts, and you do not even have to read this if you do not care about me as a person, but I have come to find that I only read blogs when I like the authors. I think it is super interesting to hear what food bloggers do, say or experience outside of their kitchens. Therefore, this will be a place, where I will write about things that are close to my heart, people that I met or feelings that I have towards various subjects. Of course the world is not all sparkly and happy, so there might even be some topics that are less cheerful and happy, but still important for me to talk about. With that, I am just going ahead and share with you my healthy favorites in May.
1. Food Pharmacy and a giveaway for your gut health
In April, my cookbook shelf grew by five books. One was so inspiring that I simply had to tell you about it. Food Pharmacy is a book written by two Swedish health bloggers, and it’s all about that gut health. It is definitely more than just a cookbook. Healing you body with food might be old news to you, but the authors are wrapping all of their knowledge into fun anecdotes and make healthy gut eating seem so much fun. Struggling with gut health myself at the moment, this book came just at the right time. And the best news: you can win one copy of the German edition of “Food Pharmacy”.
Here’s how to win:
Leave me a comment below this post. Just write me a couple of lines about what inspired you recently, what did you come across that made you happy, what did you learn last week? Provide a first name and a valid email adresss and I will announce the winner on May 13th under this post. Unfortunately the giveaway is only open to readers with a valid German address.
Good luck!
2. A coffee date with Imke Johnston from Hey Honey
So a few weeks ago I had a coffee date with an amazing woman and CEO of Hey Honey*, a sustainable athleisure wear from my current home town Lüneburg. Now, even though Imke and her sister (who run the company) live in Hamburg, their business is listed in Lüneburg, which they probably won’t like me to point out, but it was actually the reason that we connected. A sustainable yoga and active wear company from my town? How amazing is that?
So I contacted Imke and two days later we met at my favorite café Bell & Beans and talked for hours about their business, yoga, healthy food and so much more. I am in LOVE with their eco-friendly yoga pants (hello, pineapple pants) and have been wearing the “Hey Honey” sweater nonstop since I got it. Never have I gotten so many compliments on a piece of clothing before.
Meeting Imke made me so happy, and showed me once again, that talking to inspirational people gives me so much energy and appreciating for the thing that I am doing.
3. Beetroot Latte
While I was chatting with Imke, we both enjoyed a delicious beetroot latte at Bell & Beans. If you haven’t heard of the beetroot latte before, let me fill you in: it’s basically just beetroot juice with almond milk and a sweetener of your choice. Since Bell & Beans stopped making it, I had to make my own and the recipe for my beetroot latte went on the blog last week. Has anyone tried it yet?
4. Spiritual Podcast – Happy, Holy & Confident
Spiritual what? To be fair, a few months ago I had no idea what either one of those two words meant. But then a friend suggested listening to Laura Malina Seiler and her Podcast “Happy, holy & confident“. Now, if you’re already typing it into your Podcasts App on your Phone, let me tell you that it is a German podcast unfortunately. But, it is definitley one of the most inspirational podcasts I have ever heard. Laura is a life and spiritual coach, who has this amazing personality that just makes you happy. I was super sceptical when I listened to her first episode and now I cannot stop listening to all of her wisdom and giggles. Definitely my May Favorite.
5. Flowers and Plants – a gift to myself
So I know that I am definitely not a trend setter, I am more of a trend follower, so that’s why I have finally let one of my Pinterest wall dreams come true and built myself a tiny little Urban Jungle. I have not decided if I wanted to share my little jungle with you, as it’s still a very small and almost sad kind of jungle. Then there is also my new herbs garden that I planted two weeks ago – surprisingly all herbs (rosemary, basil and cilantro) are still alive. I can literally see my thumb becoming greener day by day.
I also bought myself flowers. A whole big bouquet of flowers just because I felt like it. And that was totally ok, because they made me super super happy. They still look like in the picture, and paying 10 Euros for such a wonderful bouquet was definitley worth the money.
What I learned this month:
There had been times these past few weeks, where I wasn’t feeling well. I felt exhausted, I was constantly freezing and just felt a whole lot of unease every day. So I went to seek the help of a naturopath, and we are currently re-establishing my gut health and intestinal flora. I am taking all kinds of supplements, because my blood pressure medicine and stress have led my small intestine to become weak and sick again. Even though I am eating right, my body cannot absorb all the nutrients it needs, so I decided to go through a gut restructuring program, in order to get better and stronger.
I just wanted to share this with you, to show you that it’s not all fun and games in my life either. But I still like to look at the bright side of life and enjoy every day to the fullest.
What is going on in your world at the moment? What made you happy this month? Let me know in the comments below (and automatically enter the giveaway for the food pharmacy book).

Huhu:)

I just discovered a new restaurant only serving RAW foods and had the most amazing Pad Thai – not the sweet stuff you usually get at the regular Asian restaurants but full of veggies and healthy food. To see more and more concepts coming up motivates me to always look for healthy options and not give up. Doing something for yourself when eating nutritious food is so important and blogs like yours give me the needed input for recipes – thank you for that 🙂

Hi there, at the moment I am not so happy with work (too many changes). But I am happy this month with tons of aspargus, my brothers birthday party and two days off. And thank you for your inspiring post.
